Mrs. Massey's Suggested Design Process:
1. Think about your project. Identify your what type of project you are doing to keep the theme appropriate to the subject. Decide what you want readers to see first or your focal point. Create your focal point with strong contrasts.
2. Research. What have others done before? How can you take what people identify typically with your publication and make it your own, make it interesting, and make it stand out.
3. Group your information into logical groups. Use proximity to display the relationships in your information.
4. Use organization and stay clear of confusion. Cut and paste images into a project does not make it yours. Use formatting to use images to create your own design. Don't be afraid of trying something new, you can always get rid of it if you don't like it. You can always use Photoshop in conjunction with Publisher to create a professional looking design.
5. Be conscious of fonts. Are they appropriate to your project? Always look at spacing, size, contrast. Careful of split words, looks unprofessional unless there is a reason for it to be placed that way. ie: a word that splits to another line such as un-professional.
6. Find items that have a repetitive connection. Take a look at what might be repeated naturally.
7. Make sure to use strong contrasts to catch the readers eye. Whether it is fonts, bigger and bolder with smaller and lighter, make it different so your eye is attracted to it.
